Bennett College Plans to Graduate More Than 100 Students

Bennett College will award degrees to more than 100 candidates for graduation during its Commencement Exercise scheduled Saturday, May 7, 2016, at 10 a.m. in the Quadrangle.

“Commencement reminds us of the very reason for our existence, which is to celebrate and educate women, transform them into 21st century leaders and contributors, preparing them as impactful contributors in our global environment,” said Bennett College President Rosalind Fuse-Hall. “Our world, with its rapid pace of change, is eagerly awaiting our Belles. Our graduates are not only academically prepared and serious about learning; but, they are also open to intellectual expansion, accepting of diversity, and strong in their determination to serve humanity. Congratulations to the parents, families, and supporters of our graduates.”


Seniors are being asked to enter the campus from Bennett Street and park behind Ida Good Gym (spaces are limited). Gorrell Street will be closed at 7:30 a.m. to all traffic. Vehicles will be redirected to the Washington Street lot. Parking will be available to family and guests in the following locations: Washington Street Lot, Wells Memorial C.O.G.I.C. Church, Early/Middle College Lot. Handicapped and elderly family/guests can be dropped off and picked up behind the Chapel to be closer to the Quadrangle. Other parking areas will be reserved for VIP’s, faculty and staff. Golf carts will be driving from the outer lots to the quadrangle before and after the ceremony only.

Commencement Speaker

LaShawne Holland, a leading expert in the art of activating wealth potential, will keynote Bennett College's Spring Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 7. Holland is founder of The Wealthy Leaders Institute and Chairman of LaShawne Holland International® (dba Holland & Holland Enterprises, LLC), a financial development and wealth activation education company focusing on financial literacy education, money mindset mastery, economic elevation, and wealth empowerment. She is author of Wealth Covenant for Couples, and founder of The Wealthy Women ROCK! Live Event and The Money Made Easy Masterclass Network. She has been featured in more than 350 media outlets to include: Fox 5 News, BET, Black Enterprise Magazine, BRAVO, CBS News, ABC, NBC, The CW, Yahoo Finance, MarketWatch, The Money Show, Bloomberg Businessweek, Beyond the Dow, Atlanta Business Chronicle, Reuters, Dealbreaker, WORTH, Boston's Business Journal, EMoney Daily, and the Chicago Business Journal to name a few. She is a graduate of Morgan State University School of Business and Management and has worked with the U.S. Department of Treasury and other governmental agencies to assist them in planning, implementing, and managing financial-related activities.

Baccalaureate Speaker

The Baccalaureate speaker for commencement week is Rev. Racquel C.N. Gill, pastor-in-resident at St. Paul Community Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. The Baccalaureate Service is Friday, May 6 at 6 p.m. in the Annie Merner Pfeiffer Chapel. Gill has preached to youth and adults throughout the states of South Carolina and North Carolina as well as other parts of the country such as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Cincinnati, Ohio. She has also served as a pastoral intern in Patterson, California; Chicago, Illinois; and Charlotte, NC. Gill is a 2012 graduate of the historic Columbia College for women in Columbia, SC where she holds a bachelor’s degree in English Education and was actively involved in the NAACP, SC Teaching Fellow’s cohort, and the Zeta Tau Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. She received her Master of Divinity in May 2015 from Duke Divinity School. While at Duke, Rev. Gill served as Vice President of the Black Seminarians Union and was named the 2014 recipient of the Addie Davis Award for Excellence in Preaching from the Baptist Women in Ministry out of Atlanta, Georgia.
