8th Annual Interdisciplinary Research Day

Friday, April 10, 2015

Interdisciplinary Research Day at Bennett College is designed to showcase research and scholarship in diverse academic disciplines, with the goal of connecting and integrating multiple academic schools of thought, fields of study and professions.

Undergraduate scholars demonstrate the quality of their research through oral and poster presentations. Students with the best applications are selected to present; those who make the best presentations of the strongest research are awarded valuable prizes and recognition.

Interdisciplinary Research Day (IRD) has become one of Bennett College’s signature initiatives, aligned with its history as a leading liberal arts institution with a strong track record of successfully educating women in the sciences.

While participation is not limited to Bennett students, this annual program represents Bennett’s commitment to offering women an educational experience that encourages scholarly pursuits, preparation for leadership roles in the workplace, society and the world; and life-long learning in a technologically advanced global society. Students from Greensboro consortium colleges and other local and national institutions are invited to submit and application for consideration.

Application overview

  • Presenting authors must complete an application form in order to be considered. (Co-authors don’t need to register separately.)
  • Presenters must indicate whether they will make a poster or oral presentation.
  • Applications and abstracts (oral and poster) are due by March 23 in order to be considered.
  • Abstracts should be no longer than 300 words. Submit your abstract on the online submission form on Bennett.edu.
  • Your presentation cannot be accepted if it is a literature review. Evidence that your research data has already been collected and analyzed is key to your paper’s acceptance.
  • Refer to the rubrics to determine the area that is most appropriate for your project.
  • Student must have a faculty sponsor or mentor who vouches for quality of the research/scholarship and advises on the presentation. (The mentor is invited, but not required to attend the presentation.)
  • There is no cost to enter. Students are responsible for creating and bringing their own presentation materials.
